Representation - Teenagers

As the teen age group is my target audience I thought that it would be relivent to discuss their reputation in society and media.

Teenagers, the group studied, is viewed by every other stereo-type in society as evil, they connote specific fashions such as, hoodies and baseball caps, also, violence and crime such as knife crime and drug dealing. This is shown in the everyday media to the extent that walking down the street, other teenagers start to feel the same fear of other teens that the elderly do. This is where the media representation starts to get complicated.

I believe that the accepted representations of different social groups rely on a number of extremely good, or extremely bad experience through the eyes of a single individual that gets broadcast on something that people are going to read and due to a trusted name or brand, believe. This leaves the public with a very objective view on the group that even teenagers can start to think. I agree with the statement in the way that I think the representations are misleading and look like they are very straight forward but in fact have a lot of hidden depth within them. I think this is partly to do with the fact that society sees the age group with a very modernism view, where as someone who is able to think in a postmodern way would think into it with greater depth are a much wider spectrum. In the media teenagers are portrayed as the villian, or in a modernist view.
